The modern world was very much built by the West through investments in the blood, sweat, and tears of darker-skinned people. Colonialism, as noted by Frantz Fanon, was a totalitarian enterprise. There has been no part of the modern world untouched by its racism and its extraction. Even countries such as Switzerland, which did not have colonies invested in the colonial enterprise, saw large amounts of wealth flow through their territories. The West’s wealth came through the brutal and wholesale extraction of other people’s resources.
