Yet again, you make me pause for thought and ponder - what was I trying to get across and how could I do it better? I consider that a precious gift, so thank you!
Of course, I mean 'white' as a conceptual category assigning power and privilege over those defined as , 'non-white'.
To clarify further, Julian Assange's genotype is 'white', so he certainly accessed privilege and power but look what he sought to do with his accomplishments: he created a system that enabled him and others, to expose the infrastructure of deceit and vast cruelty of the Amerikkkan military.
By his actions, he tried to create accountability and respect for the rights of the unarmed Iraqi citizens getting murdered for the sadistic pleasure of the Amerikkkan soldiers who shot at them from the safety of their helicopter.
If an environmental movement has such white people in leadership roles definitely indigenous people /people of colour should participate.
But what my engagement with white-led groups whatever their overt ideology, has taught me is that they are absolutely ineffective and their protests are little more than performative feats that function only to make themselves feel better.
There are voices in academia, seeking to separate 'whiteness', as an ideology, from people who carry that label. This sounds clumsy but .hopefully you will grasp my meaning... I'm a bit tired this Sunday morning!!!
