Who Says the Fucking Pen is Mightier than the Sword?

Uncle, leave that wasp alone!

My uncle laughed and replied — rolled up newspaper in one hand: “What are you, a Buddhist?”

As a 13 year old, I objected to my uncle chasing around the poor little wasp that had come through the open window, into the living room of his newly built house.
“The wasps were here long before these houses were built — just let’s guide it out of the window”.
Eventually with a little bit of help, the wasp made its way out alive. And I was left with the intriguing question “What is a Buddhist”?

Some 25 years later, I was living in a household of Buddhists, including the resident teacher who was from a Tibetan tradition.

Ironically, it was there that, for the first time ever, I felt a murderous rage welling up inside me.
