What is the point of humans have rationality, a sense of civic duty and notions of the common good?

If you recall that it has taken over half a century of dialogue, and dissemination of information, before finally governments. stopped people smoking en enclosed places like planes, restaurants etc... So that shift in consciousness and norms, helped both those addicted to smoking and it helped everyone who does not want that passive inhalation of poisons...

Especially it protected children whose parents moved, as it created a general consensus not to smoke indoors even at home.

I believe I welcome dialogue and that's why all the kids in my life come and comment and critique freely with me/ about me/family rules or whatever, but less so with their parents.
