Socrates chose to drink hemlock rather than seek some alternative to a death sentence. Samurai chose to preserve their honor through suicide by disembowelment. Buddhist monks chose to protest the Vietnam War in the same way Aaron Bushnell did, and I don’t recall anyone calling into question their mental health. And for those who have any understanding of the Christian faith, Jesus willingly chose to sacrifice his life for the sake of others.
