Meghan Markle the Princess is essentially an ongoing case study on microaggression. A form of alt-racism that has overtaken its more cumbersome predecessor. Blink and you’ll miss it. But get up close to somebody on the end of it and it will hit you as hard as a cross burning on your front lawn. Stand next to the recipient and you will understand exactly the ways that they are made to feel that they do not belong. That they never should have been. What is perhaps most frightening is that the UK with all of its manners and politeness has been training for this type of assault for a very long time. But as it balances its position as a voice of righteousness on the world stage, the colonial undertones will become all that much harder to underplay.
