Therein lies the deception at the heart of liberalism. The fact is society is formed around hierarchies. Therefore it is a complete nonsense to say 'we are all equal'.

Furthermore, people are embedded in webs of relationships and these SHAPE VERY PROFOUNDLY, WHAT A PERSON CAN AND CANNOT ACHIEVE.

The inbuilt hierachies create inequality that hurts some, while enhancing the power of others. Liberalism in fact serves to mask these truths and creates blame for those rendered less powerful.

When you are located in a web of relationships that through a combination of sexism and racism, for example, absorb time and energy as you are faced with either fighting back, or giving in and acquiescing, one’s possibilities beyond that framework are deeply undermined, if not broken.
