There were many many parts of the world with egalitarian/socialist/female-honouring type of values, before the Western articulation of ‘Enlightenment’ values. These were never fashioned to apply to any but White males… hence the struggle of women and people of colour to have the principles of rule of law, equality before the law, and other civil rights be applied; that the majority of people had to engage in protests and marches in the continuing fight to gain rights taken for granted by propertied White males, does not validate ‘Englightenment values’, but rather, tesifies to the deep yearning for freedom and desire to be treated with dignity, by all humans. The so-called ‘Enlightenment’also, saw the beginnings of the roots of the appalling dehumanising of people with no property ie capital, the objectification of humans and the adoration of money and profit.
