…mophobia, Muslims are often targeted and defamed on the basis of stereotypes about premodern Islam. I wrote The Persian Prison Poem in part to resist and undermine inaccurate stereotypes about Muslim society as a world that did not permit dissent.

That's so interesting, given the present intolerance for dissent by Muslims here in the Uk where I live. I was fascinated to discover the poet-philosopher, Alzaadi of Syria and his poems both advocating distrust of religous folk and expressing an atheist sensibility.
