That’s really interesting — I’ve always been reluctant to use ‘Western’ concepts and that rather entitled individualism that is the hallmark of the average White Western upbringing… In the context where for example, my father was working on the land, to support his younger siblings who eventually went to college, while he continued to wrk to support them, so his father had a life or relative leisure… it was hard to see him as exploitative of his children. It’s really difficult to see th ewood for the trees in thes complicated scenarios of intergenrational hardship layered by th eadditional pain of a racist political order.
