That's quite harsh - speaking as someone who has never fitted into my family and also received a lot of rejecting behaviour because my values are different - such as, that I'm vegetarian and they are not... still, I think the years of nurturing me as a child do mean something and my commitment to be supportive of my parents when they are older, weaker and ill, fulfils what it means to be human : that we love and nurture despite our differences. This is the heart of South Asian culture in contrast to the West glorifies a selfish individualism. That is surely responsible for much of the mental suffering, loneliness and alienation that modern life in 'advanced societies generate.
