While there is a lot in the public domain I can access about the civil rights movement, of teh 1960's there is not much said about the decades before - so this systematic very violent voter suppression has been going on a long long time... it really is what Alison Wits called in her recent article, white terrorism.

As you are a white male, such analysis probably carries more weight so as an ally you are making inroads into the deliberate erasure and omission of the level of violence that's consistently being used to maintain white power in the USA.
