Thank you for articulating the central aspect of my life experience in the U.K as a woman of. South Asian origin.
The number of times white males over the years, have reached out for my help and support eg One of them, got me to to write his undergraduate dissertation, and then, kind of made himself homeless and moved into my flat without asking me first … honestly, it’s embarrassing to see the pattern of how I got emotionally manipulated into feeling responsible … What I am now coming to recognise is that in the face of frequent harassment and low level tension from institutional racidm in my places of work, I still managed to do better, financially and academically yet it went on snd on , how these mediocre white men, needed my support to get on within the very institutional structures formed for their advancement.
Too often such mediocre white men could not stand it and would come out with belittling, invalidating comments and behaviours !!!
I’ve got a lifetime of such experiences and am now in the free time provided during the COVID. lockdown realising the damage of being mis educated within White educational institutions, as colour blind …This article and other analyses by women of colour in the USA are helping me enormously.Thank you !
