I think your situational and personal factors are correct but the massive missing elementor dynamic, is systemic injustice which is often the root cause of both. So for example, most of the students at Uni, took their problems ( personal and situational ) to the only woman professor in the philosphy department, as all the male professors cared much more about carving out their careers/publishing promotion prospects, so they gave the minimum teaching /tutorial time. So that's sexism at work, the woman doing the emotional labour, responding empathetically.
I coud give you examples of racism too, but you get my point... your conceptual framework is adhering to the neo-liberal Thatcherite fantasy of offering individual solutions for societal problems.
