Sadly, you cannot assume that the average person in the 'democracies' of the West is even 1,000 th as well informed as you.
They hardly know where the 'Middle East' is, let alone writers not picked up by Hollywood such as Said and Khaldi.
And here I must confess, despite my long involvement in supporting protests etc for Palestine, maybe I am only 100th part as well-informed as you - there have been very few discussions about Palestine within my circle of family growing up, and for instance Khaldi is only a vaguely familiar name to me and I could not say what he has written.
I am engaging with people in my day to day life and especially nowadays as the election approaches in the UK, there are discussions happening and sadly, most people don't know much of the background before the Oct 7th event. The narrative they are exposed to is mostly the horribly biased but superficially neutral, nightly news. And so the first step is to expose the biases in that mostly intact narrative, especially amongst older people who don't uses social media like TIK Tok.
