My apartment may have a basement full of rats, a broken door and windows, be surrounded by rubble, but we are the root and the blood of this land, we shaped its earth, we sweated and bled over it, and destroying our hospitals, our schools, our mosques and churches, our cemetries, will only make us the cockroaches, rats and snakes you say we are; such creatures know every inch of their territory, they are hard to expunge. As Mandela said, “you can kill a lot of us, yet we sprout up again from our soil.”
