They act like they have good intentions, they even get all pally and enjoy our food/don some aspects of our clothing/jewellry/hairstyles/ and we accept them - and then their behaviour is damaging/is a betrayal/but it is hard to beleive they could have been so manipulative, so treacherous, ... and there is a degree of plausible deniability... and so the mental gymnasts begin!

I recall wathcing titled I think it was 'Lawrence of Arabia', how his personal promise to the Arabs that if they joined in with supporting the U.K ?France etc, they would gain their own nation - but that turned out to be a lie. He knowingly mislead his friends and thei rode of honour. he despised himself for doing it, but nevertheless less still did so. Ugh...
