Much gratitude to you Shinyung Oh for taking the time to write this beautifully thoughtful and profound meditation on what is love/duty/self-respect-self-care and that there comes a time when we must turn away from those who cause us little else but harm. I identified so much with what you wrote in terms of the sense of protectiveness for your mother. My parents also spoke very little English and are then cheated by uncles... so all my teenage years were centred around defending them both from white racist attacks on our home, business and supporting my siblings at school/college. A very thought-provoking piece. I am happy you are blessed with a good husband adn children who will be your legacy for a better world. I'm sure you are an inspiration to them... I hope very much you regain your health as you turn away from the constant stress of your family of origin... and yes, miracles do happen! I'm sure every person who reads this beautiful meditation , is sending you thoughts of strength and love - as I do.
