Kathy, I understand that you want to say every person has value by virtue of being alive and having consciousness, but I think the whole point of the term 'chosen people', is to give greater value to them, and therefore, lesser value to those not 'chosen'.

To give a banal example that is in everyone's experience, when teachers are picking who to play for the school football or hockey team; those chosen are deemed to have greater skill and therefore those not chosen do feel disappointed and there is pain about not being 'chosen'.
