It was only in my thirties that I studied the Koran seriously and I agree, just like the Bible and the Torah, there are many verses and teachings that infantilise women, objectify and otherize people of other faiths or none etc etc... So while some individuals and some people seeking political power, pull out r=those verses as justifications for violence, there have always been others who have fostered neighbourliness, friendship and intermarriage has occurred too,,,

I think we can learn a lot from how South Africa has come through the vast U-turn from a White supremacist, settler-colonial entity that dehumanised people depending on shade of colour, to a nation which grew out of the wisdom of a leader once labelled terrorist, and who did not seek vengeance once in power as Prime Minister, not even on the prison guard who had peed in his mouth, instead of bringing him water.

If we don't grow into that level of greatness, we will degenerate into the barbarism that says might makes right.
