In my experience of teaching adults failed by the schooling system in the U.K, any teachers with a broadly humanist approach, which centres students needs above management and governmental demands, starts to get targeted and attacked. This serves as a warning to the rest of the staff; to be compliant with authority or their life will be made difficult. The power and purposes of autocratic/liberal-pretending regimes definitely extend into the classroom to control and shape the next generation.
