Responding to Frank Moone's comment below, I think the main difference is that the people under this other empires were not as deluded as most Western people are - they believed in ‘ might makes right’ and acted accordingly. The West claims the moral high ground as the ultimate most civilised of civilisations yet they have made all their science and philosophy hand maidens to their military and its mass murders all across the Global South .
