I think it is really important not to conflate being assertive with being masculine.

Rather, being assertive is a quality of human beings who are confident, have high self esteem, low tolerance for being insulted and while patriarchal societies encourage males to be more aggressive, too often, aggression is misrepresented as self assertion or th stupid, 'boys will be boy's excuses.
