I really cannot agree with you that I am 'fierce'! In fact, the problem is as you clearly express, we women of colour are expected to be compliant, and no matter how calmly, quietly and softly we speak, our 'no' is perceived as an aggression. And then we are given labels.

I don't accept the designation 'fierce' just because I speak without any qualifiers and the euphemistic language we are expected to use.

As in, 'Do you mind, if you can possibly...'

A dog or tiger is 'fierce, when snarling and about to pounce.

I have never snarled at or pounced upon anyone though I do firmly and equivocally, reject diminishing, degrading behaviour that I find is sexist/racist etc. or that misrepresents me.
