I LOVE that this author does not have an Anglo-Saxon first name, an abhorrent attempt by many parents to gain s pass into white society for their children. hen I was teaching English, I asked one of my Hong Kong origin sadult students why she had named her son 'David' and her daughter 'Jennifer they they looked as Chinese origin, as she did'. her reply was that she'd hoped they would find it easier to make friends in their all-white school in the U.K.

Fast forward twenty years and both of her children are married to Chinese origin people and the family do not really have any white friends.
