Of course you are absolutely right - jealousy, power struggles etc as you describe, happen within the same family, community, racial group... Your comments are certainly making me think and clarify my thoughts more...

What I am wanting to convey is my profoundly slow realisation that apart from the people who despise and dismiss and devalue others just on the basis on ethnicity and racial stereotypes, there is a much more deep and unconscious denigration that expects the Whyte person to be in the superior position and if that is in jeopardy, the person takes action to undermine/invaldate and discount the potential of the person of colour.

I will explore some more problematic scenarios to convey my meaning.
