I am the third daughter and I recognise myself in what you say... It is to do with the qualities of the child, not so much their birth order, in my experience.
IN my birth family:
Eldest daughter was very timid, Daughter 2 was very selfish and self-absorbed but Daughter 3 was full of empathy compassion courage and love- so guess who the parents turned to in every crisis?
