When you grow up as part of an obvious racial minority, people will look at you as an anomaly and often jump to conclusions. It’s most common when you’re a member of a particularly small racial minority, like Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders or Native Americans (who are an even smaller percentage of the American population because of centuries of genocide and cultural extermination, but that’s another post).
