Have you noticed how we don’t name the cause, either? We tell women to keep safe at night, we recognise the power of movements like Take Back the Night, and yet we still don’t, as a society, acknowledge the enormity of the problem. We still don’t say, hey, listen, there is an epidemic of male violence that has existed for millennia, and though we have of course made progress, the majority of women in the world, the vast majority, live in fear of male violence every day, so much so that it’s simply the backdrop of daily life, it’s in our crime shows, it’s our entertainment, our podcasts, and yet this pattern goes unnamed because it’s simply the air we breathe.
