Between the 1980s and the present day, Exxon (and its industry partners) worked assiduously to undermine scientific scholarship. As more and more scientists came to the same conclusions that Exxon’s researchers had — that climate change was real, that it would be bad, and that it would happen soon, Exxon’s executive and PR teams deployed their vast resources in an attempt to mislead the public and politicians about what their products were doing to the environment.
