I escaped the UK for a while and lived in Bulgaria but I didn't realise the social impact of the whole society turning towards the USA model of 'developemnt'. An editor at the biggest publishing house there even preferred to believe the myth of empty lands settled by brave British explorers... Let's not forget that the USSR supported numerous workers and people's land movements across Asia, Africa and Latin America opposing the capitalist imperialist forays into their countries.
