Yet and still, because the U.S. was established on the subjugation of my people, I cannot abide being ‘just American’. We did not have a say in this country’s formation. We did not have a say in its genocidal greed, and we certainly did not profit from its gains. A lot of people did these things, but we did not. As American as we are, we’re not those Americans and, therefore, we aim to separate ourselves from them.
