It takes immense faith in one's own humanity when it has not been reflected back by our first caregivers, to also care about the rights of those otherized.
I don't think I'm making myself very clear here but to be able to step outside the worldview of an abusive set of adults/family relations as you have done and to speak for humane values to be extended to those labelled The Enemy is to be a truly magnificent human being.
