As the third daughter after my mother lost two male newborn sons who were still-born, I understand the devaluation you experienced ... but as you say, it is an aspect of patriarchal society, whether Jewish, Christian or Muslim.... my mother is now 93, with early onset of memory issues and she has also mellowed, which is a gift!
