Another very interesting line of inquiry to consider... People like RD Laing and others critiquing Western psychology have pointed out that the existential crisis of alienation, loniliss, social isolation, and lone gunemn going berserk and going on a killing spree happens far more often in the her-individualistic West than the more communal East.

I saw the difference in terms of a young woman knew at the gym, getting exhausted trying to manage as a single mother with no support from ex boyfriend or her own mother or sister. She was half dead from long sleepless nights ... while when my sister divorced, she had a whole set of relatives from grandma, to aunties and uncles, and cousins ,whom she knew she could rely on to take care of her baby and kids while she did the housework, rested and took a nap, attended a course or whatever.

So while the single English mum sought to get the doc to give her baby some kind of tranquilliser and she was on anti-depressants, my sis studied, and got stronger in her self esteem, till she got work and eventually, stood on her own feet economically.
